The Great Junk Hunt

Best Thrift Store Finds

Leo and I visited our family in Las Vegas, Nevada in March. First and foremost, because we missed them and wanted to spend time with them. Second, because we love thrifting, and so does my family. We found the best thrift store finds on our trip like, 50% off clothes, home décor, and vintage items.

The Great Junk Hunt, a traveling flea market, was set to arrive in Las Vegas, Nevada in March of 2022, and I knew my family would want to check it out. Leo and I set out on a road trip from San Bernardino, California–I wish we had pictures of the trip to share, but sadly, we forgot!

Check out our thrifted finds. Maybe some of these will inspire your thrifty home décor!

Tea Time Décor

This photo doesn’t do it justice, but I found a beautiful metal tiered stand. I’m not sure how I’m going to use it, but when you find something that brings you joy and you cannot walk away from it, you buy it! I picked up this little beauty at the Junk Hunt for $15.

Mason Jars

I absolutely love finding mason jars of all shapes and sizes! I even found a cute juice jar at the Goodwill for $1. I’m repurposing it for a mouthwash bottle in our bathroom.

Check out this beautiful 6 cup mason jar. I mean, wow! I didn’t even hesitate to start using it before I could even photograph it! I love how the old-fashioned oats look in it!

I usually pay about $1-$8 dollars a jar. The larger ones being at the high end of that price range.

Mid-Century Wood Décor – Teak wood

If you ever find wooden bowls or utensils, grab them! The best thing about them is the real wood “shine”. Don’t put anything on them, and for crying out loud, do not paint them!

You can take care of the natural beauty with a good wood oil, like Conrads Wood Food Oil.

Flowers

I laughed at the suggestion of fake flowers for my home décor, until I found these. Seriously they are the prettiest little things. I picked up the light flowers at the Junk Hunt for $8 and the darker pink ones were given to me by my aunt while in Vegas.

Vintage Office

My husband has been searching for a vintage pencil sharpener for years. I think they’re pretty cool too and add real vintage aesthetics to our office. We found one in an antique store near our home, but for $80, no thank you!

We found this one at the Junk Hunt for $10.

Vintage Photos

I always pick up vintage photos when I’m out thrifting or antiquing. I would not pay more than $1-$2 dollars for a photo, but of course, if it’s special to you and you can’t put it down, buy it. I use them for digital imagery, DIY crafts, cards, and home décor.

The photo we picked up at the Junk Hunt was part of a set that clearly depicted a group of soldiers with a cute young lady during the 40’s. Unfortunately, most of the set was already purchased by the time I reached the booth. The lady looked so happy, I just had to buy her. I think it was about $1.

Milk Glass

Let’s talk about milk glass for a minute. Milk glass vases were very popular and the florists go-to during the 1950’s-1960’s. They’ve been around a lot longer than that, however the items you’ll likely find while thrifting can date back to the early 19th century.

Prices can vary significantly. I picked up this cute little vase at the Goodwill for $3. This purchase was a great decision as I found a similar vase at the Junk Hunt for $8!

Some of the other purchases rounding up our visit were wooden trivets. I bought those at the Goodwill for $4 and the L letters for about $1-2 each (for Leo).

We also came back home with a very cool, handmade HAMMER & Spoons sign, made out of metal and wood, for our office (photo pending).

If you like to travel, check out The Great Junk Hunt online. They travel state to state, and the next California visit will be in Pomona in October, 2022.
